The Unspoken Long-term Effects of Cheaper EV’s

If you’re someone who gets off on replacing your devices often as new models are being released – then you’re almost certainly hoping your device will be making it unscathed from one year to the next.

At the very least, you’re hoping for minimal repairs. And if staring at your deteriorating battery a year after purchase in disbelief is somehow becoming a recurring feeling, you’re not alone. But wouldn’t you rather a total solution as opposed to putting a plaster on the problem.

When it comes to electric scooter brands, the cheap “plaster” solution is more common than not.

Maintenance costs as a hidden cost.

Maintenance costs can double the original price of the vehicle within the first 8-16 months – and is becoming increasingly normalized.

Due to faulty design and cheap materials used in manufacturing, consumers have run into every problem under the sun: defective seals, tube replacements, full braking system replacements, loose handlebars, motor and controller replacements, disruptions with the connection to the battery app – you name it.

It’s the snowball effect: as soon as one thing goes wrong, more things begin to degenerate.

Meaning, if you go the less expensive route in the beginning, you might regrettably find yourself funding repairs that cost more than the outright cost of buying a scooter 4x the price.

Then there’s the battery, which as we know, is stabilizing with some promising alternatives in development (link battery article). Current battery life expectancy for most electric vehicles is a minimum of 8 years or 100,000 miles. Often, electric vehicle companies offer warranties with the promise to remedy the expectant wear and tear; however, the fine print of many EV warranties only replace batteries if they can no longer hold a charge. Though, it’s not common for a battery to be become this decrepit – meaning often times you’re just left with a weak version of your original battery.

Why we’re doing what we’re doing.

When you’re ready to invest in your future, Zapp’s powerhouse-of-a-scooter checks all the boxes. With it’s modular design (the first of its kind) – the Zapp scooter ensures a lifetime of daily use with the simple promise of providing the latest technologies. Including, sustainably sourced, high quality materials in the construction and maintenance of your bike. These elements are critical for longevity.

Imagine this technology used, for example, in your phone. You’d like a new camera, or a new internal processor, but your battery and screen are still operating perfectly. You purchase that component which you’d like to replace, while retaining the familiar shape, feel, and reliability of the already working parts. If that wasn’t enough, you get to keep a clear conscious of avoiding being unnecessarily wasteful.

Down with the damned “plaster” solution! We’d like to take that step forward with you. Check out our online design lab to visualise your modular future.
